LRLA was established as a non-profit in 2015, in order to protect Lower Rhoda’s ecosystems and minimize the use of herbicides in our small and very special lake. Within a few short years, we had to scramble to combat an onslaught of Eurasian Milfoil, an invasive plant which- if left unchecked- can take over an entire water body. Our goals rapidly expanded to include education of the lake’s stakeholders about the dangers of invasive plant life. Through the dues and donations of our community members, we have been able to keep Lower Rhoda pristine. Ours is a hands-on, hybrid approach that has thus far left us able to swim and boat without fear of entanglement in Milfoil, Curly Leaf Pondweed, and Brittle Naiad.
